A small family farm located in Louisa County near Zion Crossroads, Forrest Green Farm is committed to supplying the best naturally and ecologically grown medicinal and culinary herb plants, vegetables, grass-fed beef, pastured chicken eggs, pastured poultry, and horse hay. Another specialty of Forrest Green Farm is their registered Polled Miniature Herefords. Classes on gardening and healthy living focus on growing for the future by teaching about natural and sustainable methods of growing herbs and vegetables for healthier, self-reliant living.

Special Programs:

  • 10:30am Meet our Miniature Herefords Tour, Blue Farm Store. Rob will give a tour with Q&A of the Miniature Hereford cattle herd on the farm. He will discuss the benefits of raising the smaller cattle and how they utilize the cattle to enhance pasture management using intensive grazing techniques.
  • 1:00pm Harvesting and Drying Herbs, Green Tent. Krista will go into detail on when is the best time to harvest herbs, specifics about different herbs, the best drying methods (air drying, rack drying, dehydrating) and how to best store herbs for lasting freshness.
  • 3:00pm Pastured Poultry Broilers Tour, Blue Farm Store. Rob will give a guided tour of the mobile chicken houses and discuss the health and farm benefits of raising chickens on pasture. He will also discuss raising laying hens on pasture for year round production of eggs.

This year the Meet Yer Eats Farm Tour will coincide with our annual FGF Farm & Herb Festival. There will be Farm & Herb Festival activities all day (10am-5pm) including other vendors, demos, children’s activities, 10% off all plant starts and lunch/food trucks. We will have Blue Ridge Pizza and Kona Ice food trucks here for the day.

Farm Store open for seasonal fall plants, produce, dried herbal products, and chicken and beef sales.

Directions:

64 East to Exit 136 (Zion Crossroads).

Turn right onto Route 15 South, one mile to the stoplight and turn left on Route 250 East.

Go 4 miles then turn left onto Route 626 (Evergreen Road).

Go 2 miles, and driveway is on the left – look for “Forrest Green Farm” sign.
